Philadelphia Photographs: 1976 to 2010 During the last several decades, I have lived and photographed in Philadelphia. In particular, I have realized that the period of time between 2000 and 2010 would be a significant opportunity to record the iconic, ironic, and often sureal scenes that evolved from our nation's birthplace at the beginning of the 2nd millennium. Recently, I relocated to Asheville. I am now working on the Philadelphia pictures here, and I intend to keep making trips back to photograph till 2010. I could'nt have found a more opposite environment to be viewing this work. As opposed to the mountains of fresh air and lush fecundity that surounds us here in Asheville, Philadelphia is an old congested city with piles of relics, organic urban grit, beautiful historical architecture, as well as the omnipresent creative destruction of the old for the new. The historic city just seems to bare the scars and beauty of our cultures evolution which fascinates me, this is what I try to capture on film and paper.
